Although it is relatively thin gruel, there were some positive announcements about energy in the Budget Statement. First and foremost, the Chancellor chose to keep the temporary 5p per litre fuel duty cut for another year and the planned increase in 2025-26 will be cancelled. The Government claims this measure will lead to a saving of £59 in 2025-26 for the average driver.Re Posted From: Ed Miliband’s Net Zero Department Given 22% More Cash to Waste on Green Energy Unicorns and Other Budget HorrorsWatts Up With That . . . Climate Change Policies, Killing the American Dream: The Climate Realism Show – LIVE every Friday
Posted On: November 1, 2024
Climate change policy is often framed as a challenge to personal freedoms and choices, especially when policies seem to impose strict limits on individuals’ lifestyles and economic options. For example, regulations that mandate renewable energy or limit fossil fuel use can feel like a direct restriction on the American dream—the idea that with hard work, anyone can achieve prosperity and a higher standard of living. These policies sometimes require sacrifices that may impact businesses and workers in traditional energy industries, as well a . . . [

The Better Path In Energy

It has been assumed that reprocessing spent nuclear fuel is expensive, more expensive than mining uranium at a yellowcake price up to perhaps $250/lb. But what SpaceX has shown private operators can replace some government monopolies for 10% of the latter’s operating costs. The solution may be as simple as putting the spent nuclear fuel through a molten salt reactor, producing power while separating out the actinides. We won’t know until we start and the important thing is to start early in 2025.Re Posted From: The Better Path In EnergyWatt . . . [

Electric Vehicles: A Tale of Woe in the Absence of the Market Process
Posted On: November 1, 2024
There is a market for electric vehicles, but government mandates and subsidies—regulators predicting winners and losers—cause more harm than good. By forcing technology into widespread use before it is ready for primetime, governments are causing consumers to resist EVs. Instead, government regulators should allow consumer demand, competition, and the “market process” to guide EV adoption.Re Posted From: Electric Vehicles: A Tale of Woe in the Absence of the Market ProcessWatts Up With That . . . I mean, if we could build one of these suckers per week, that would only take us … hang on, let's see … carry over what sums to greater than 9, divide by pi, take the square root, allow for Cook's Factor, this math stuff is tough … that would only take us 19,231 years to complete the project.Re Posted From: A Bit Of Perspective Goes A Long WayWatts Up With That . . .
